The video call function appeared on Skype more than 10 years ago. Since then, many times users have wanted to save a recording from their conversation. They had to use external software such as OBS for this purpose. Now, however, it will change. Microsoft has added the call recording feature to Skype – both on a PC and on a smartphone.
To record a conversation, you must click More options and select Start recording for the PC version, or touch More options and Start recording on your smartphone.
In both cases, all participants of the conversation will see a banner informing about the start of recording. When you finish recording the conversation, the video file will be sent to the cloud, and the chat will show the corresponding function that allows anyone to download it or share it with your Skype contacts. This option will be active for the next 30 days.
If you want to download or send a recording of a conversation to a PC, just click the More Options button and depending on what you want, select Save as or Forward. When using Skype on a smartphone, we need to hold the recorded connection and select the appropriate function as for the PC.
Thanks to this solution, recording calls (for example, business meetings that we will later show to others) will be much simpler, faster and will not require searching for additional programs. However, it will not allow secret recording. So if we know that our friend will not be happy with recording conversations, but actually need video recording, then we should use external software such as OBS Studio.
The call recording function will appear in Skype clients in the coming weeks.
